If my grandfather Ernest Towns was still alive, today would have been his 96th birthday. I called him Pappy. Everyone else called him Goody. He was given the nickname Goody because he was known for being a good person and helping out anyone. He may not have had much, but that didn’t stop him from lending a hand to others. My pappy passed away when I was in first grade. My memories of him are limited. What I remember most is being called Goody’s granddaughter. It gave me a sense of pride to be known as his granddaughter. The way people said it made me feel special.
My favorite bible verse is, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 ESV. That’s how I try to live each day. It gets hard, but I try to stay in the fight. This is why I am so passionate about education and being an education writer. Many times when people hear education they think K-12, but when I say education, I’m talking about teaching and sharing knowledge. That’s why I consider my gardening writing garden education.
As I look back at 2018 across the publications I consistently write for (Indy K12 and The Educator’s Room), other publications that have published me, and the content I write for my websites, I have written a lot of content.
You can check it out below:
- Indy K12 – 120 articles
- The Educator’s Room – 22 articles
- Other Education Publications – 3 articles
- Educator Barnes – 86 blog posts (including this one!)
- Gardener Shicole – 22 blog posts
That’s a grand total of 253 pieces! That absolutely blows my mind. I love to write, and the thoughts flow from my brain down to the page. I hope what I write is helpful and is making a difference whether I’m helping parents navigate parent/teacher conferences, helping teachers to take care of themselves, or helping people learn how to grow watermelon vertically. This is part of the good I do and the good I will continue to do in 2019.
Although the first episode dropped today, I also hope to help people through my new podcast Brazen Education where I am focusing on speaking your truth, being transparent to help others, and having no shame about it.
I appreciate every reader and podcast listener. I hope something I wrote or said in 2018 helped you.
Check out my first podcast episode, and I’ll see you in 2019!
