Book Review: The New LiBEARian

What would you do if you showed up to the public library and found out you no longer had a librarian, but instead you had a liBEARian? That is the situation some children in the book The New LiBEARian by Alison Donald found when they went to the public library for story time.

This book follows the children who showed up for story time and the problems that occur when the librarian is a bear. This story was simple. At the end of the story, there is a revelation about where this bear really belongs.

I wish there was more done with the revelation about the bear at the end of the story. Amazon listed this book for students in grades PreK-3, but I believe the simplistic nature of this book would not hold the interest of students in grades 2 and 3. Although this is a children’s book, I wanted a bit more depth to the plot. Nonetheless, younger readers might enjoy this book.
