God Knows All About Me by Kate Toms is a Christian book. As I have said many times before, representation matters, including in religion. I have been inside religious places where I have felt uncomfortable because all of the art that shows God, angels, and the afterlife features white skin. Don’t sing to me:
Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red and yellow
Black and white
They are precious in his sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world
…and then your church is covered in artwork that leaves me out.
I like this book because it tells the story of how God knows you, and the children in the book have brown skin.
