National Reading Month: Educator Barnes Reads – Warriors Don’t Cry

Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals is the true story of Melba’s experiences when she integrated Central High School as part of the Little Rock Nine.  It is important our students are exposed to stories that recount the obstacles students of color had to overcome.  As we get further into the future, many of our students won’t have a relative who can tell them about this time in history.  This is why nonfiction texts like Warriors Don’t Cry are so important.

To hear from Melba, you go to the links below to listen to her recount her experiences.
