Day 2: Part IV – Quito, Ecuador
Before I share about the learning opportunity 66 people (parents, teachers, and students) experienced, I want to thank everyone who donated to my sons, especially those who donated multiple times. I don’t take lightly those of you who follow my Educator Barnes/Blazing Brilliance content, whom I never met in person, that donated just because you saw the importance and value of this opportunity for two Black boys who love science.
I’m also proud of my twin sons for taking on numerous jobs to contribute to their travels as well.
…………………………
We had numerous activities on day two, so I will share one activity at a time.
Fifth & Sixth Activity
For our fifth activity, we went to the Intiñan Equator Museum.
The equator line runs through the museum. They painted a red line so you knew where it was.
We had the opportunity to put one foot of each side of the equator line.
We learned about previous Indigenous peoples and the history of chocolate in Ecuador. We even got to try the plain cacao and then some Paccari chocolate.
That little skinny fish was the pen*s fish. It goes into the urethra and then opens up and destroys the male members from the inside.
We also learned how people made shrunken heads. I have a video about that.
Last, If you could balance an egg on a nail on the equator, you received an egg master certificate. One student earned it ![]()
Our sixth and final activity was dinner. We were again reminded that Ecuadorians really love to eat soup. I don’t remember what soup that was but my sweet plantains were delicious.
Day 3 is coming soon.
