Day 2: Part I – Quito, Ecuador
Before I share about the learning opportunity 66 people (parents, teachers, and students) experienced, I want to thank everyone who donated to my sons, especially those who donated multiple times. I don’t take lightly those of you who follow my Educator Barnes/Blazing Brilliance content, whom I never met in person, that donated just because you saw the importance and value of this opportunity for two Black boys who love science.
I’m also proud of my twin sons for taking on numerous jobs to contribute to their travels as well.
…………………………
We had numerous activities on day two, so I will share one activity at a time.
I started the day by wearing one of my favorite jumpsuits. People thought my outfit was dressy. I’m a tomboy at heart and that jumpsuit felt like pajamas. It also had pockets
Of course, I had to rock my trusty fedora!
Since April is National Poetry month, I took my book with me to share a post about it while in Ecuador ![]()
Our first activity was visiting the Virgin of Quito. This is an aluminum winged statue of the Virgin Mary. It is the tallest aluminum statue in the world and the tallest winged Virgin Mary statue. You could go into the bottom of the statue and view pictures of saints and the history of the statue.
Our guide informed us that 80% of people in Ecuador are Catholic.
You could also go outside at the top floor inside the structure to view the city below.
This statue can be seen from many places in Quito.
We are not Catholic, but the structure was interesting.
Stayed tuned for part II of day 2!
